Systems
Engineering: Created architectural alternatives for
redesign of existing semiconductor wafer sorters to
improve reliability and maintainability. Performed the
systems level design of an optical inspection module for
wafer sorters. Created a conceptual design of the control
electronics of 300mm semiconductor wafer sorters. Oversaw
redesign of an ISA bus 4-axis stepper motor control board
with vacuum sensors to eliminate obsolete parts and
improve reliability.
Detailed Design:
Developed ESD immunity improvements to wafer sorters that
quadrupled system-level mean time between failures.
Designed a 4-axis motion control interface board with
vacuum sensors and vacuum solenoid drivers. Designed an
intelligent embedded controller including processor,
sensor interface and motor drivers for a servo-driven
wafer indexer. Designed a PC104 interface board for
Windows NT based motion-control applications. Developed
many modifications to standard systems to meet specific
customer requirements. Geospace Research, Inc. El

Systems
Engineering: Lead hardware designer for a 139 MHz
scientific radar system, including selection and
integration of off-the-shelf RF components, coordination
of mechanical design, interface with software designer
and project scheduling. Designed document control and
parts standardization systems.
Detailed Design:
Designed a 300W power amplifier and a digitally
controlled phase shifter for scientific VHF phased array
radar. Designed and implemented digital and RF
experiment-specific interface circuitry for the Arecibo
Observatory=s HF atmospheric heater.

Systems
Engineering: Lead the systems design team for Standard
Communications? revolutionary ?Stratum? television
modulator system. Lead systems designer for ALM1000
modulator system and CAM830 satellite receiver remote
control. Initiated numerous improvements in the
configuration control procedures.
Detailed Design:
Designed the backplane for the Stratum TV modulator
system, routing digital control, analog video, TV IF (45
MHz) and RF (55 - 550 MHz) signals including signal
switching for automated backup for 8 cable TV modulators.
Designed a reference oscillator PCB for Stratum modulator
system. Designed a PCB used to send and receive FSK
digital data on the aural Detailed Design: Designed the

Systems Engineering:
Integrated the communication systems on the ES-3A
aircraft including HF, VHF, UHF and SATCOM radios, IFF,
link-4 and link-11 data links and digital intercom.
Detailed Design:
Found & fixed a design flaw in S-3A wing rack driver,
preventing inadvertent weapons release. Designed
radar-blanking system for ESM receivers (ES-3A aircraft).
Investigated the feasibility of using hard-wired T
connections for bus couplers on 10 MHz manchester LAN
(ES-3A aircraft).
